New Taipei City’s First AI-Based Material Recovery Facility, Built on “FIH ROBOTICS AI Recycling Robot"

“New Taipei City Recycling Education Center” (Education Center), the first AI-based material recovery facility in New Taipei City, Taiwan was inaugurated on March 8th, 2023. "FIH ROBOTICS AI Recycling Robot”, co-developed by FIH Mobile (FIH) and Da Fon Environmental Technology, is installed in the Education Center, assisting to transform and upgrade the traditionally labor-intensive recycling industry with the help of AI technology and big data analysis.

"FIH ROBOTICS AI Recycling Robot” can automatically identify and sort more than 17 types of recyclable material. For instance, it can accurately differentiate types of plastics that are difficult to distinguish with the naked eye, such as PET, PP, PS, HDPE and LDPE, with an impressive recognition rate of over 97%. Additionally, the robot can also identify and sort by color and brand of the recyclable material, and provides real-time data analysis to monitor the recycling performance immediately.

"FIH ROBOTICS AI Recycling Robot" has four arms that allow for a large range of motion and fast picking and placement. The robot can pick more than 220 pieces of recyclable materials per minute, resulting in a yearly total of 2,500 tons of recycled materials, significantly improving the efficiency of the recycling work.

In line with the vision for a more sustainable future, FIH is committed to leveraging AI technology and extensive experience in hardware/software integration, to not only assist in the transformation of labor-intensive recycling industries, but also support the circular economy and accelerate progress towards a net-zero future.
